In their natural state, they are found mainly in Asia, with fewer species in the Americas and Europe. They usually grow in mountainous areas, on humusy and acidic soils, often in swamps, on soils and limestone cliffs. Rhododendrons do not like the heat of the sun or draughts and can grow up to 2-3 metres high and 2 metres wide. They can live up to 30-40 years.
