The shape is vertical. It flowers profusely from mid-July to late autumn. The large, dense, conical inflorescences cover almost the entire shrub. The flowers are greenish in the first flowering period, then turn cream before turning green again towards the end of summer. The shoots are stiff and strong and can support large numbers of flowers.

Hydrangea prefers a bright or lightly shaded position and will not thrive in a very sunny southern position. It is best planted in a sheltered position as winter winds can freeze the buds. Do not plant between the roots of a tree. It is not afraid of polluted city or street air. Hydrangea is not demanding of soil, but grows best in loamy, humusy, moist and acidic soil.
